FM Logistic obtains LEED Gold certification for all the modules built on its Illescas platform

The FM Logistic platform in Illescas, Toledo, now has the LEED Gold sustainability certificate for all its built modules after obtaining this accreditation for the last module built, module B1, just like those built previously.

The LEED Gold certificate is a certification system for sustainable buildings, issued by the US Green Building Council, to those buildings that have been created under criteria of sustainability and high efficiency in their operation and maintenance.

In the construction of this new module of the FM Logistic platform, as in the existing part, the highest standards of quality and sustainable building were followed, achieving water savings, using local materials and natural resources.

All the modules of this facility have been built with the most modern methods on the market: preformed concrete walls with double internal and external insulating structure; adjustable and fully automatic LED lighting system with movement detectors by areas; electric docks with external traffic light signalling; docks for trailers; electro-pneumatic exhaust system with double load; installation of solar panels for self-consumption; anti-fire system with state-of-the-art sprinklers, anti-fire sensor system by gas aspiration, etcetera.

Likewise, the materials used for their construction are sustainable: “all the components we use in all our constructions pass very demanding environmental compliance filters“, explains Álvaro Íñiguez, Director of Operations at FM Logistic Illescas. In the design and construction of these facilities, the safety and well-being of people have also been a priority.

The FM Logistic warehouse in Illescas is located in the Iberum Central Platform, a logistics and industrial area of more than 3.5 million square metres: “it is one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable industrial spaces in Spain, contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint and becoming the first Ecopolygon in Europe”, adds Álvaro Íñiguez.

FM Logistic’s facilities in Illescas also offer significant and differential characteristics, among them: flexibility to the growth of its customers’ needs and the synergies of being in a multi-customer environment thanks to its privileged geographical location. The platform is located in the barycentre of the Iberian Peninsula, which allows Iberian distribution to be carried out in less than 24 hours, and less than 40 km from Madrid, which facilitates last mile distribution in Madrid.

With this module, the construction of the so-called “PHASE 1”, or “PLOT 1”, was completed. When all expansion phases are completed, this FM Logistic platform will have a total of 90,000 m2 on a plot of 159,000 m2.
