Ports are indispensable for the proper development of logistics activities. Ports are necessary to transport goods from one country and/or continent to another. But… Do you know which are the most important ports in Europe?
- The Port of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. This is the most important and largest port in Europe. Largely because of its good geostrategic location. Thus, Rotterdam has become a major port power.
- The port of Hamburg in Germany. It is known in Germany as “Germany’s gateway to the world“. On the Elbe River, it is Germany’s largest port.
- The port of Antwerp, Belgium. This port of the Gallic country is very important in Europe since it has great connections with other means of freight transport. It has an extensive and well-established road and rail network.
Spanish ports
- The port of Valencia, in Spain. It is one of the most important ports in Spain since it is the largest in terms of number of containers. It is also a point of reception of goods from China through the Suez Canal.
- The port of Algeciras, in Spain. It is a port located in Andalusia, with very good connections with the African continent. Algeciras is located just 20km from the Moroccan coast.
- The port of Ferrol, in Spain. It is the most important port in Galicia and is one of the most important in freight traffic as it connects with the Cantabrian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. In recent years it has been gaining importance and increasing the number of tons. Overall, the transit of solid bulks reached 3,725,249 tons; liquids, 1,748,702; and general cargo, 419,005.
- The port of Barcelona, Spain. This port is no longer only important for cargo traffic, which is also important. It is a port with good connections with the Asian continent, lately with Korea, and with North Africa and Southern Europe. In the same way, it is a very important port because many cruise ships stop there and, therefore, a large number of passengers.
Other european ports
- The port of Bremen, Germany. This port corresponds to the industrial center of the city. Large quantities of goods arrive here.
- The port of Cagliari in Italy. It is one of the most important ports in Italy as it has very good connections with southern Europe and the Mediterranean.
- The port of Felixstowe, in the United Kingdom. This port located in the North Sea is the most important port in the country since it is the one that receives the most containers in the United Kingdom.
As can be seen, our country has some very good ports. Four have been highlighted for their international importance but we have many Spanish ports with great potential that are gradually gaining the importance and recognition they deserve.
